Today marks the beginning of a new and exciting era as Completely Motoring Group purchase Thunder Road Motorcycles.
The acquisition of the business supports Completely Motoring Group’s continued growth, as it expands the company’s footprint and strengthening its multi-franchise status.
The merger sees all three Thunder Road sites joining the Completely Motoring Group, which is managed by directors Rob, George and James Ayland.
This major expansion means that we now lay claim to an incredible 1500 new and premium used motorcycles across the 10 sites. The dealerships stretch from North to South Wales, and include sites in Worcester, Gloucester and Hinckley, hosting some of the biggest motorcycle manufacturers in the industry, which include Triumph, Ducati, Kawasaki, MV Agusta, Yamaha, and now newly acquired Honda, Suzuki, Indian Motorcycle & Montesa.
Completely Motorbikes are looking forward to working with the existing Thunder Road Team to help this incredible venture go from strength to strength.
James Ayland, Group Motorcycle Sales Director said, “I am honoured to welcome the Thunder Road Team to Completely Motoring Group. George and I have worked alongside our father since leaving school. We have evolved Completely with its family values into an organisation that sells cars and motorbikes all over the UK, adding Honda and Indian Motorcycle to our other franchises.”
Thunder Road Motorcycles has delivered a great and successful service to its customers for many years. This success will long continue through the support of the Completely Motoring Group, with the support of its loyal customers, dedicated members of staff and its strong brand presence.

“Well, I never thought this day would come! After 43 years in the motorcycle trade, 28 of these as Managing Director of Thunder Road, it's time for myself and business partner Dave Smith to hang up our uniforms and go and play with our classic motorcycle collection!
I am so proud of what we have achieved at Thunder Road and our involvement in the motorcycle community. Our three dealerships have sold over 40,000 motorcycles and won numerous manufacturer awards. We have had World Champions at our legendary open days including Carl Fogarty and James Toseland, to name just a few, and some of our bikes have finished on the podium at the Isle of Man TT in the capable hands of Ian Lougher.
We owe a huge thanks to all our customers, many of whom have been with us for over 40 years.
Our team of fantastic people at Thunder Road have been instrumental in the success we have achieved together. A huge thanks from myself and Dave Smith for all your efforts and loyalty.
Although it's a very emotional time for myself, I am so pleased to be handing the reigns over to Rob Ayland and family at Completely Motorbikes. As a passionate family of motorcyclists, I know they will continue to look after our customers and staff as we have. I don't think we could have found a more suitable and enthusiastic successor for our business. I wish them the greatest of success in the future and I know they will work tirelessly to continue building on the achievements of Thunder Road Motorcycles.
We have made many great friends in the industry over the last 4 decades and Dave and I hope to see you all again at various motorcycle events.
It's been a pleasure to have spent a lifetime in this industry and I wouldn't change a thing!”
